The Canadian Institute for Procurement and Materiel Management (CIPMM) and the Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) are pleased to announce a tremendous professional development opportunity for the NCR real property and materiel management community (see below for session specifics).

This Joint Speaker Series is presented by CIPMM and RPIC at no cost to event participants. Please note that participation is limited to one-hundred attendees. You may register on-line here.

Procurement Reform From an SME Perspective

(across from the L.B. Pearson Bldg), limited parking is available on the northeast side of the building. All visitors using the parking lot must register their vehicle licence plate number with the commissionaires just inside the building's main entrance off Sussex Drive. Otherwise a parking ticket will be issued. All persons should access the building via the main entrance off Sussex Drive.

Session Description:
Marshall Moffat, the Director General of the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) will discuss procurement reform from an SME perspective. In particular he will describe how SMEs can contribute to this transformation and the targeted ways in which the OSME will provide support. This support will take several forms: for instance, a plan to increase procurement with SMEs that will help the government save $25 million; or, the  work to reduce barriers to competition in the government's procurement system. Finally, Marshall Moffat will also discuss the OSME's initiatives to date including an exciting, new method of supply for contracting professional services, the PSO.

Session Description:
The Government of Canada is changing its approach to procurement under "The Way Forward" initiative. The Way Forward will achieve enhanced commodity management on a whole-of-government basis with a targeted savings of in excess of $2.5B over five years. Specific targets have been set for achievement of a 10% reduction in the price of goods and services, a 50% reduction in throughput time and a 10% reduction in the administrative cost of procurement.

Mark Seely, P.Eng., Director Value Management Office, Public Works and Government Service Canada, has the responsibility for measuring and reporting on the performance of this government wide initiative and will present an overview of The Way Forward for government acquisitions and progress to date.
